An Introduction to Celestial Navigation – the Noon Shot Transit

Join Mr. Chris Leavitt as he presents an Introduction to Celestial Navigation – the Noon Shot or A Meridian Transit.  Learn the basics from a Senior Navigator and his team of instructors!

Finding your path from here to there can be difficult, for supporting details of that statement read Bilbo Baggins bestselling book, There and Back Again.  What we are doing isn’t a book, class, or seminar – it’s a conversation with a practical exercise.  Chris and others will work with you about the maritime history of celestial navigation, explain how the sextant works, mentors will show you how to use the sextant, and demonstrate measuring horizontal angles and altitudes.

You will actually use a sextant with an artificial horizon to measure the ‘noon transit’ (the highest point of the sun on a particular day) and, with simple calculations, determine your position on Earth.  Everyone will enjoy this time with Chris! It will be fun – informative – lively – and from an excellent source of knowledge.  This activity is Free to everyone.

Registration is limited.  You must be on time to the event as
there is little or no time to go over materials and skills
before taking your sextant measurement.

Making a sight with a sextant requires a clear sky.  Should there be excessive cloud cover, rain, or fog, the event will be held again on February 12, 2022 (a Saturday).

We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.

I’m going around in circles. There was no link on your email other than this home page ( to which I am logged in ) for the Houston PS

I click on links that just tell me what Zoom is. The venue website takes me back to this homepage.
