Skywarn Spotter Training

Event Phone: 281-974-9981

SKYWARN weather spotters are trained volunteers that watch the skies during severe weather and relay reports back to the National Weather Service (NWS).  Spotter reports are crucial for effective warnings and can save lives by validating an existing warning or providing the impetus for issuing a new warning.

Skywarn spotter training sessions are offered free to anyone with an interest in severe weather and in providing these critical reports that contribute to public safety.  The training session lasts around 2.5 hours.  The training is ideal for ham radio and C.E.R.T. groups, first responders, dispatchers and private citizens interested in getting involved, boaters on inland waterways and local coastal waters.  Want more information?

UPDATE:  Cancelled because NWS is following group gathering guidelines around the COVID-19 outbreak, but the course will be held via webinar.  Sign up online and enjoy the webinar!
