Leave No Trace

The LNT, Inc. organization provides education, skills, research and science to help people care for the outdoors.  The Seven Principles of Leave No Trace provide an easily understood framework of minimum impact practices for anyone visiting the outdoors – including our recreational maritime environment.  Our training is helping to instill an outdoor ethic in all those who enjoy spending time outside and on-the-water.

The Houston Squadron became a Community Partner in 2021.  Our stated goal is to deliver the principles of Leave No Trace to the recreational boating community.

The LNT Awareness Workshop
This is an entry-level workshops that is typically two hours long.  This workshop is tailored for the needs of the recreational boater.  What is taught is not a set of rules, but guidelines to show how we can be better stewards of our environment and be nicer to our fellow boating enthusiasts.  This workshop is Free.  Students will receive supplemental handouts to support the education.

The LNT Train-the-Trainer Course
Participants in the two-day Trainer Course will learn Leave No Trace skills and ethics as well as techniques for educating others about these low impact practices.  Trainer Courses typically take place over two consecutive days and involve spending more than half of the course outdoors.  This course is both in a classroom setting and in the out-of-doors.  Instructors will guide potential LNT trainers on the appropriate educational materials to purchase and how to inexpensively create training aids.  The course tuition pays for lunch and a collection of educator materials.
